Have a Very Healthy Christmas

6 Ways to Have a Healthy Christmas

As the days shorten and those extra layers are brought out from their summer slumber, it’s inevitable that our thoughts turn towards that season of goodwill – the ‘most wonderful’ time of the year that we call Christmas.

Christmas is a nostalgic time for many people – it conjures up feelings of warmth and happiness – of ‘comfort and joy’, images of roaring fires and smiling faces. But are these feelings always a true reflection of Christmas or do they represent a rose-tinted view of the reality? Are we looking after ourselves – and each other – around what should be a special and enjoyable time of year?

The Pressure of Christmas

For so many people, the lead up Christmas is pressurised, with planning to do, shopping to buy and a jam-packed calendar to contend with. On top of this, Christmas can leave us with financial worries too!

Ironically, the pressure of delivering the ‘perfect’ Christmas can negatively impact our health and wellbeing; surely this defeats the whole point of the festive period!

Staying Healthy this Christmas

Ultimately, at any time of year it’s important to put our health and wellbeing first. Here are 5 ways to enjoy the Christmas period whilst staying fit and healthy too!

1)  Stick to a Budget

It can be easy to run away with your finances at this time of year. This can lead to anxiety and financial discomfort in the months ahead. Avoid this by ensuring you have a budget to stick to.

2) Plan Ahead

However you choose to spend the festive season, you need to plan well in advance to minimise stress; this helps to spread the cost too. Avoid the frantic dash to the shops on Christmas Eve by doing a little Christmas shopping every week in the lead up to the big day.

3) Minimalism is OK!

Why not ease the pressure on yourself by having a more minimalistic Christmas – after all, family is what the season is all about! Minimalistic decorations can bring that extra touch of class and chic to your interior, whilst traditional board games (rather than iPads) are surprisingly fun and draw the whole family together!

4) Everything in Moderation

Christmas is the season of indulgence, but try to avoid over-indulging! Keep tabs on your diet, and drinking habits, and keep yourself hydrated. Keep active too – all that sitting around can lead you to quickly pile on the pounds.

5) Buy Meaningful Gifts

How many times have you received a gift that has ended up in the charity shop or attic? And how many times have you struggled to find the perfect gift for someone? Buying the right gift can be a stressful challenge.
